THE APEX was formed back in 1966 by trumpet player
George Chambers and is unarguably Ireland's longest
established and most successful jazz band.
the music
Steeped in the tradition of New Orleans Jazz, THE APEX
repertoire includes material from Louis Armstrong,
King Oliver, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton,
George Lewis, Kid Ory, Bunk Johnston et al.
Marches, spirtuals, rags, blues, stomps and pop tunes
from the jazz age are all present in a well balanced
and entertaining programme.
Without compromising artistic integrity, THE APEX JAZZ
BAND presents its music in an enjoyable manner and
this has contributed greatly to the ever increasing
popularity. |

feed back on the whole day to the programme.
On behalf of the entire production team I

on the road - at home and abroad
Throughout the years the THE APEX has appeared all
over Ireland at festivals, concerts and jazz club
sessions and has made numerous radio and TV appearances
for BBC, Ulster Television and RTE... including the
Late, Late Show (RTE & C4), Jazz Parade (BBC Radio 2)
and The Kelly Show (UTV).
For a long time the band stayed at home, content in
accompanying the big jazz stars brought over from the UK

Price, Alton Purnell, George Masso, Dick Wellstood,
Monty Sunshine, Pat Halcox, Roy Wiliams, John Barnes,
Cy Laurie, Sammy Rimmington, Ian Wheeler plus the late,
great Ken Colyer. They all guested with THE APEX, some
on a regular basis.
However, as our reputation spread, requests increased
for the band to travel for apperances outside Ireland.
Consequently, during the past number of years we have
been heard in:
| SCOTLAND |
Glasgow, Isle of Bute, Girvan, Edinburgh and
Kirkcubright Festivals |
| ENGLAND |
Birmingham, Northamption, Bristol, Cottingham,
South Shields, London (100 Club), Keswick,
Bude, Upton and Hexham Festivals |
| HOLLAND |

| GERMANY |
Dr Jazz, Dusseldorf |
| USA |
